Annett Heads to Las Vegas

Race Release posted on 03/02/2009

Las Vegas, Nev., (February 25, 2009) – Following a solid race at Auto Club Speedway, Michael Annett hopes to bring home a strong finish after a two week visit to the west coast for the NASCAR Nationwide Series races in Fontana, California and Las Vegas. The driver of the No. 15 Germain Racing Pilot Travel Centers/HYPE Energy Drinks Toyota Camry gained 11 spots in driver standings following his 16th place finish at Fontana.

Annett looks to increase his standing with a good finish on the 1.5 mile “D-shaped” oval at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Saturday’s Sam’s Town 300. Historically, Annett has fared well on intermediate tracks with starts in both the ARCA RE/MAX series and the Camping World Truck Series. His best start on a 1.5 mile track was fourth at both Kentucky and Kansas and his best finish was second at Kentucky.
Annett’s average start and finish on 1.5 mile tracks has been 12th.

In addition to competing in Saturday’s Sam’s Town 300, Annett will venture to the famous Las Vegas strip for two events in conjunction with the weekend’s race. He will participate in the Fourth Annual Raybestos Rookie of the Year Cooking Challenge on Thursday, at the ESPN Zone in the New York, New York Hotel and Casino. As a 2009 Raybestos Rookie of the Year contender, Annett has been invited to the competition which challenges the drivers to create their best dish.

When asked about his expectations of the cooking challenge, Annett said, “I think I’m a good cook so I’m excited to test my culinary skills against my fellow Raybestos Rookies.”

Annett will also join Speedway Children’s Charities in a live auction at Sam’s Town Casino on Thursday, February 26 to be auctioned off for a ride-along during driver introductions for the Sam’s Town 300. The lucky winner will ride with Annett in the parade lap following driver introductions prior to the race. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Las Vegas chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities.

“I’m looking forward to helping Speedway Children’s Charities with their event. They raise money for a great cause. Whenever an opportunity like this comes about, I’m always honored to get the chance to be a part of something so rewarding,” noted Annett.

Trackside events leading up to the Sam’s Town 300 include two practice sessions on Friday at 10:30 a.m. PST (1:30 p.m.
EST) followed by the final session starting at 1:45 p.m. PST
(4:45 p.m. EST). Qualifying begins at 9:00 a.m. PST (12:00 p.m. EST) on Saturday, February 28 with the green flag dropping for the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway at 1:30 p.m. PST (4:30 p.m. EST).
