TMC Receives RIDE Grant

Press Release posted on 01/15/2010

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) recently awarded TMC Transportation with a $680,500 grant through its Reduce Iowa’s Diesel Exhaust (RIDE) program to install Climacab APUs on 100 TMC trucks.

Forty-nine applications were received and after review the top 12 scoring projects were selected for funding totaling $1,607,638. Of the 12 recipients, TMC received the largest grant and will have the most significant impact on the environment. The goal of the grant TMC received is to reduce emissions through the reduction of idle time.
Installation of the APUs has already begun on trucks chosen and approved by the Department of Natural Resources.  The project will be completed sometime in March and is expected to reduce diesel emissions by 1,725 tons per year.

The entire RIDE grant, which receives funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, is expected to reduce emissions by 2,100 tons annually.

“TMC is thrilled to receive the RIDE grant through the DNR,” says Jason Webb, executive vice president of asset management.  “TMC works diligently to ensure we are using fuel efficiently and the RIDE grant will enable us to install APUs that can further lower our idle time and reduce emissions.”
